A BUNCH OF NEW FEATURES FOR THE 18th EDITION OF THE SNOW PENTATHLON

Alex Harvey will be the spokesperson for this not-to-be-missed winter event presented from February 26 to March 13, 2022, on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City.

Quebec City, December 21, 2021 – The Pentathlon des neiges is pleased to announce many new features for its 18th edition, including the arrival of Alex Harvey, the famous Canadian cross-country skier and holder of several World Cup titles, as spokesperson. The event, which will take place from Saturday, February 26 to Sunday, March 13, 2022, on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City, will feature a total of 20 different sporting challenges. An additional week, called the week of discovery and nordicity, has been added to the calendar, that is to say the week of school break.

During these 16 days of activities, the Pentathlon des neiges will offer a wide range of sporting challenges during which families, friends, colleagues, students, children, adults of all ages as well as amateur and elite athletes will try to push their limits, while having fun and enjoying the Quebec winter to the fullest.

“Following his retirement as a professional athlete, it was only natural that one of the greatest athletes in the history of our region would become the spokesperson for the largest outdoor winter event in Canada,” says Francois Calletta, General Manager of the Pentathlon Group.

“It’s no secret that I am passionate about winter sports. That’s why I’m delighted to be associated with the Pentathlon des neiges de Québec, which offers a multitude of challenges that can suit both high-level athletes and amateur athletes, as well as children and their families. I will be at the starting line from the first weekend of activities, for the corporate challenge with my colleagues from BCF Avocats as well as for the brand new Iceman Vidéotron challenge. I invite you to participate, the goal is to have fun!

We are very happy to be part of the organization of the Pentathlon des neiges,” added Quebec City Mayor Bruno Marchand. I am already looking forward to putting on my running shoes and participating in the activities with my executive colleagues. Pierre-Luc Lachance, Mélissa Coulombe-Leduc, Marie-Josée Asselin and Marie-Pierre Boucher will join me in completing the Pentathlon steps. Moving is the key to good health. This is the perfect opportunity to participate with family, friends or alone in a great event that makes us proud in Quebec City.

The new Iceman Videotron challenge

An enhanced version of the ITU winter triathlon, the Pentathlon des neiges offers three versions of the Iceman Vidéotron challenge: the Sprint (10 km), the Classic (25 km) and the great new Iceman Ultra challenge, consisting of 10 km of running, 40 km of skating and 25 km of cross-country skiing, for a total of 75 km.

A spring break under the theme of discovery and nordicity

In addition to the sports competitions that have made its reputation, the Pentathlon des neiges will extend its programming during the spring break. Several activities will be offered to the population throughout the school break such as: skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and free running on the Pentathlon des neiges courses, ice canoeing on a snowy circuit, Ultimate Frisbee on snow, multisport training by Triathlon Québec, running on snow in collaboration with WKND, board games, para-hockey and para-nordic ski trials, etc. Multicultural, cultural and gastronomic components will complete the program – to be unveiled soon.

The complete program will be available soon here.

“With this enhanced programming, the Pentathlon des neiges is entering a pivotal phase that will take it to its 20th anniversary in 2024. With the addition of the Iceman Ultra challenge and a discovery program during spring break, we hope to further promote what makes Quebecers so proud of what they are passionate about, socially, culturally and athletically. Always under the great theme that has animated the Pentathlon for 18 years, accessibility for all,” added Francois Calletta.

The registration period is now open

The public is invited to register for the various Pentathlon des neiges challenges until February 14. Nearly 3,000 people have already registered. More than 6,000 have participated in 2020 while more than 14,000 have participated in the virtual component in 2021.

BCF Corporate Challenge: access to sports for 3,500 young people

A corporate component is also offered to all those who wish to participate in the Pentathlon des neiges and thus finance the participation of 2,000 students in the School Invitational Tournaments – elementary and high school – in addition to helping thousands of young people from underprivileged backgrounds gain access to extracurricular sports through the “À l’école, moi j’bouge” program.

Decathlon Virtual Holiday Challenge

The Pentathlon season kicked off on December 18 with the launch of the popular Decathlon Virtual Holiday Challenge. Until January 4, 2022, everyone is invited to share their “exploits” on the Facebook group page in order to participate in the daily draw for great prizes. More than $10,000 in prizes are offered to reward participants.
